Memorial Day Weekend- Carmel

Happy Memorial Day! Despite a little wind, it was a gorgeous Sunday. My parents and I decided to take a little trip down to Carmel, a town less than 2 hours from Mountain View. I had planned two activities for us to do.
1. Check out the Memorial Day Festival in Davendorf Park.
2. See Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmelo (or Mission Carmel, as I called it).

After our arrival, we soon came to the conclusion that there was no festival being held anywhere in town. So I decided to take pictures of random sites around town (you will notice quite a few pictures of doors and gates).

We spent a little bit of time on the mission grounds. The gardens were very pretty. On the way back home we stopped at the Gilroy outlets to have dinner (at Applebees) and do a little bit of shopping (I mostly window shopped :))

This door reminded me of reading The Secret Garden

Sameeha

How cute is she?

My niece Sameeha is going to be turning two in exactly one week. It is amazing how fast she has grown up. Sometimes it is hard to believe that only a couple of years ago she was a tiny baby swaddled in a crib. I thought it would be fun to write down some facts about her so we can look back and remember what she was like around this age. Here we go...

She loves...
... bollywood songs, (or any opportunity to listen to music). Her favorite song is "Desi Girl".
... her favorite T.V. shows Word World and Sesame Street
... talking (she has a vast volcabularly in both Urdu and English and can already speak in full sentences)
... to dance especially to the "balle balle" song
... french fries
... childwatch
... loves to sing along "hookey pookey" and do the moves
... read books. She especially likes Thomas the engine books.
... learning
...socializing with her friends at childwatch. She knows each of them by name.
... going down slides
... watching videos on YouTube especially the classic nursery rhymes.
... sleeping in her bed.

She does not love...
... baths
... cold weather
... eating. She usually eats yogurts and french fries.
... staying in one place

Fun things to do with her....

A Picture Perfect Birthday

My birthday started out with pancakes for breakfast and ended with a family dinner at California Pizza Kitchen on University Avenue in Palo Alto. I made pancakes for breakfast -chocolate chip, banana, and blueberry pancakes. My previous attempts at making pancakes usually ended up with misshapen confections, but this time they turned out really good. Dinner was a lot of fun. I had originally wanted to go to either Crepevine or Sliders Bar Cafe for dinner. Both opened in 2010 on University Avenue, Palo Alto. I picked California Pizza Kitchen because I know everybody loves pizza!
*You will notice many pictures of food items. During my trip to Costa Rica, I began to take pictures of foods that had a good presentation. That grew into a weird hobby. Now, I take pictures of foods regardless of their presentation. So enjoy...

    Lunar Eclipse

Astronomy is one interest of mine that I don't spend much time on. So when I learned that on December 21st, we would get a chance to see a rare lunar eclipse, well, I got a little excited. This lunar eclipse of the coincided with the winter solstice. Apparently, the last time this occured was in 1638 and the next one is going to be in 2094.  I made a big deal about it- wrote it down on my daily planner, told my family about it, and posted the event as my status on Facebook. The eclipse started approximately at 10:33. My brother (he stayed out for a few minutes) and I went out to see it. I took some pictures of the event, but unfortunately my digital camera couldn't capture the copper-red hue the moon changed into. It was quite spectacular! Enjoy the pictures (the ones online are much better)!
