Wordless Wednesday

At first I thought this photo was about standing out and then I read the caption that went along with it and had a laugh. I am not a mom yet, but can imagine days like this :)
Can you spot the kid in ballet whose mom couldn't find any clean white socks today? Yeah, she's mine

Memorial Day Weekend- Carmel

Happy Memorial Day! Despite a little wind, it was a gorgeous Sunday. My parents and I decided to take a little trip down to Carmel, a town less than 2 hours from Mountain View. I had planned two activities for us to do.
1. Check out the Memorial Day Festival in Davendorf Park.
2. See Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmelo (or Mission Carmel, as I called it).

After our arrival, we soon came to the conclusion that there was no festival being held anywhere in town. So I decided to take pictures of random sites around town (you will notice quite a few pictures of doors and gates).

We spent a little bit of time on the mission grounds. The gardens were very pretty. On the way back home we stopped at the Gilroy outlets to have dinner (at Applebees) and do a little bit of shopping (I mostly window shopped :))

This door reminded me of reading The Secret Garden

No, my dad and I are not in a middle of a fight. He just chose to sit far away from me and have the "far gaze" expression.

(Nearly) Wordless Wednesday

Today, I thought of this video. My mom forwarded it to us in an e-mail a long time ago. I have saved the e-mail all this time and everytime I watch the video, it brings a certain peace of mind. No matter what one believes, they can relate to its beautiful message.

Bay to Breakers- May 15, 2011

Yesterday was the annual Zazzle Bay to Breakers footrace held in San Francisco. The name of the race reflects the start point of the course near Embarcadero (the "bay" side of the city) to the west end of the city and the "breakers" of Ocean Beach. This year was a little special since the race celebrated its 100th anniversary and had a few new incentives to increase participation (over 50,000 crossed the finish line yesterday).

1. The new race start time was 7 am (not sure how this is an incentive).

2. To improve the flow of the runners/walkers the race employed a wave start of the race. The participants were divided into corals depending on the pace they wanted to run the race. This was pretty cool, because we were able to see others start the race and it was definitely less chaotic (but still fun).

3. Alcohol and floats were forbidden. This was obviously not enforced because marijuana and alcohol were present in  all their smoky," fumy" glory. Of course no one thought of a no-naked people ban. Despite multiple warnings from our friends, we ran into many "exhibitionists". We counted 17 (15 men, 2 women). It was like counting shooting stars.

4. There was a new location for the post-race Footstock festival, which was lame because that was another mile walk from the finish line.

5. This year all registered finishers received a medal.

* I didn't post any naked people pictures.

My favorite aww"est" moments from the royal wedding

Okay, so it has been a few days since Kate and William's wedding, but I am still ever so obsessed with the event. I missed part of the actual live event due to the imposing power of my REM cycle, but thanks to syndicated coverage on CNN and BBC, I was able to watch the whole event.  Here is a list of my favorite moments from the event accompanied by photos along with my ratings.
  •  "You look beautiful"

As Kate met William at the altar, he spoke the words every woman wants to hear from the man she is about to marry. Look at Prince Harry. Hilarious!
  • THE DRESS!
I absolutely love Kate's dress, created by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. She looked glorious.

  • What

    • Harry Told William
As Kate walked slowly down the aisle, Will gazed stoically ahead, avoiding the urge to sneak a glimpse. Prince Harry, best man peered backward at his sister-in-law, informing his brother: "Right, she's here now." Flashing a grin, he added, "Wait till you see her."
  • Happy Couple

When Kate and William  came out of Westminster Abbey and sat in their carriage, Kate leaned over to William and said, "you look happy." William immediately responded with a question, "Are you happy?" and she replied "yes."
  • THE KISS!

Both of them.
  • The Wedding Vows

They both looked so poised and elegant. Their vows were heartfelt and loving. Plus I loved those accents.

Other noted events:
  • Kate's walk down the aisle
  • Kate and her father sitting in the car waving to the crowd outside while making their way to Westminster Abbey
Congrats Will and Kate!
